Everything Old is New Again
Reduce, reuse, recycle. . . these are the "three
Rs" of today. (the old ones didn't make sense anyway--reading,
riting and 'rithmetic--not good PR for the school systems. . .)
Our store is all about the new Rs, with a few of the old ones thrown
in for good measure.
We believe that "going green" doesn't
have to mean living at an organic commune powered by the sun and
wind (although some days that sounds pretty good). There are so
many little thoughtful steps you can take in your everyday life
that can make a big cumulative difference in the world. Start
by shopping locally and really thinking about the gifts
you give. Our products all come from socially responsible companies
and individuals--wouldn't you rather give your money to them, anyway?
Many of our lovely gift items are made from recycled materials,
but you can't always tell. Beautiful glassware is a wonderful thing,
but it's even more wonderful when the glass is recycled. Jewelry
that is made from repurposed stuff is just as fun
and pretty as the costume jewelry from big companies. You have to
clean your house (or pay someone else to), but wouldn't you rather
have it be cleaned with natural products in easily
recycled containers? There are enough chemicals out there in the
world--why intentionally bring them into your home? All of our toys
are well-crafted and don't have lead-based paint or toxic inks and
many are made in the USA. A lot of our offerings are one-of-a-kind
and handmade, so you know that your gift recipient won't already
have them. Our dog toys are made from extra tough recycled plastic,
but when your pup has chewed them to pieces, you can rinse them
off and recycle them again!
There is definitely a retro feel to our products.
Our parents were raised during the depression, and we were raised
using dishcloths instead of throw-away sponges, hankies instead
of Kleenex, and drinking tap water. I've always felt that you shouldn't
have to buy water. Or dirt (but we don't deal with that in the store.
so that's a different story). Our store is place where you can see
that everything old really is new again. If it
ain't broke, don't fix it. I'm full of cliches, but cliches are
cliches simply because they're repeated so much--and things that
get repeated usually bear repeating. So straighten up and
fly right!
